For June, I wanted to review a book about a wedding and there are quite a few great choices out there. I decided to read Accidentally Married by Victorine E. Lieske. It is the first book in the Married Series.
Morgan is an out-of-work actress desperate to find a job and get her half of the rent for the apartment she shares with her best friend. She hears about an opening at Jameson Industries for a receptionist. It’s not her dream job, but it seems like a perfect solution to her money problems. Jared Jameson needs a fake girlfriend for a family event, and he mistakenly assumes Madison is the woman he’s hired to fool his family. Madison thinks she is being hired to work as his new receptionist.
En route to his father’s house, the mistake is uncovered, but it’s too late to turn back. Madison is an actress, so it’s just another role, right? Jared decides it’s okay to promise Madison a job at Jameson Industries even when there isn’t really an opening. He is paying her for her time, so it’s not like she’ll walk away empty-handed.
For the rest of the trip, Madison attempts to create a backstory covering their meeting and courtship, but Jared decides it’s too much trouble for one evening. He’ll break the news of their split to his family in a couple of weeks, so the family will never see her again. When Madison reminds Jared that she’ll be working for him, Jared lets it slip that there’s no job and he has no intention of creating one for her.
Madison is furious and the payback begins. After sharing several embarrassing stories about their courtship with his family, Madison lets it slip that they are engaged. At the time it seems funny, but Jared’s aunt has been ill and wants nothing more than to see the happy couple settled, so she presses them to set a wedding date. Things get more complicated when Jared’s cousin also announces her engagement and suggests a double wedding.
Can Madison pretend to be engaged to a man she despises and plan a fairytale fake wedding in two weeks without ruining the very real wedding of Jared’s cousin? Can Jared keep up the deception while Madison continues to make up embarrassing details about their relationship? Will Madison continue to punish Jared after he lets his guard down and she gets to know the real man behind his corporate image?
It’s a simple story at face value, but Lieske gives her characters many unexpected layers and adds a few plot twists to keep you reading until the end.
What will happen when their fake minister turns out to be ordained and they find themselves accidentally married. You’ll have to read the book to find out.
