Whenever I visit Atlantic City, I stop to admire a sculpture of a boy chasing a girl across a beach. I enjoy the sense of movement in this motionless bronze. I sense that I know something about the personalities of this boy and girl.
It’s a piece of public art near the Tropicana Casino. I believe the sculptor was or is a professor at Penn State University.
His sculpture was almost certainly inspired by Bernini’s sculpture of Apollo and Daphne, on display at the Borghese Gallery in Rome.
