"Star Gazing" A Poem by Fran Joyce

We never walked among the stars.

Sped through space and time,

Or looked down at Earth and realized

Its Moon isn’t made of cheese.

We danced beneath a blanket of stars

Wrapped safely in the glow.

Starlight collected in your eyes captivating me

As you pointed out the constellations,

Sharing myths of love, loss, and bravery.

Eternity above our heads. Forever in our hearts.

But Time is a thief not to be trusted,

Taking you; allowing the constellations to remain.

But I only ever saw them through your eyes.

The stars may refuse to align just for me, but

I will not relegate them to mere points of light.

I prefer Jack Johnson’s holes in heaven

As I stare up at the stars each night

Eyes desperate to catch you looking back at me.
