November 2020 in This Awful Awesome Life

We hope you enjoyed our October issue of This Awful Awesome Life. Thanks for reading and thanks for your continued support and understanding. I have had some medical issues (non-COVID-19 related) since September that have delayed the last three issues. I’m hoping to get back on track and finish the year with a great December issue.

The presidential election is over, and the people of the United States have spoken in record numbers. Once the legal maneuvering is over and every vote cast is protected, our new president will take office on January 20, 2021. Thank you to everyone who voted no matter who you voted for and no matter if you voted in person or by mail. A special thanks to the voters who waited for hours in long lines to cast their votes because their usual polling places were closed because of staffing issues related to COVID-19 and thank you to our volunteers who worked at the polls and the people who counted the ballots. Democracy only works when we all participate.

Our pie this month is a crustless pumpkin pie which doesn’t need a holiday to be delicious. Linda Cahill has some great recipes for those Thanksgiving leftovers and Christian Joyce is bac with four more albums for your playlist.

We are sharing some thoughts about being thankful during a pandemic and some safety tips for getting out and walking your way to better health. Back by popular demand, I have some streaming recommendations and some books you and your kids will enjoy. I reviewed The Lending Library by Aliza Fogelson this month and we have a quiz about events that did not happen in November.

How will you shop this holiday season? We suggest you support local businesses and authors.

Samantha Sayers has been missing since she disappeared on August 1, 2018 after a day of solo hiking at Vesper Peak near Seattle, Washington. Sam was raised in the Erie, Pennsylvania area where her parents Ron and Lisa still live. Her family is exploring all avenues of inquiry to find and bring her home. In the face of such an enormous challenge, they have chosen hope. Please keep sending positive thoughts to Sam and her family. As promised, we will be displaying a yellow ribbon for Sam on the opening page of each issue of This Awful Awesome Life until she is home.

If you are a person of faith, please pray for her safe return to her family. Because we are an online publication, we can update this article with any news. We will also post information on our Facebook page. Thank you!
