When Love Speaks: A Poem by Fran Joyce

When you ask me if I love you,

And I smile and look away.

It’s not because my heart isn’t true,

I love you more than words can say.

I love you beyond reason.

I adore your eyes, your contagious smile,

Your boundless grace, every hour, every season

Making my wretched existence worthwhile.

“Of course I love you,” I articulate the feeling

My heart understands without words.

The question that never needs asking,

Answered by emotions screaming to be heard.
