August is a great month for cook outs, water gun fights, and pool parties whether it’s a kiddy pool to dip your toes in or the community pool, people just want to cool down and eat some great food.

It’s the last hurrah before school starts and businesses buckle down for that all important last business quarter of the year.

It’s been a hot summer, but the beginning of August has shown us a little mercy mixed with rain and thunderstorms. Anything feels better than the recent heat waves.

Be smart about sun exposure and avoid peak hours when the sun is at its strongest. Use sunscreen, wear a hat and sunglasses.

While we’re cooling off, we mustn’t forget our pets and the other animals we share this planet with. If we’re hot and thirsty, so are they. Stay hydrated and check pets’ water bowls often.

Be careful when camping or cooking out to make sure you properly extinguish all fires and leave your campsite or party area clean and safe for our furry forest friends.
